About Helen Matteson

American 1925—2011

Helen Matteson’s small format watercolor and gouache paintings were first shown in Paris in 2019. Her work was received with great enthusiasm at the OAF NYC 2020, and again at Art on Paper 2020. During OAF NYC 2021, Matteson was presented online and in-person in the group exhibition Abstraction Exhibition at Andrew Edlin Gallery. 

Helen Matteson produced over 8,000 paintings and approx. 400 complete notebooks—in total they represent roughly 40 distinct series. Each series numbers anywhere from 30—2,400 paintings. Known for her infinite exploration of subtle variations in composition, geometric forms, texture, line and color experimentations we have selected for OAF NYC 2022 a grouping of works from the more organic and textured painting series.
